We have had a lucky escape from the raging fire which caused a building to collapse near our Park Street head office in Windsor. Firefighters have spent the night tackling the fire just a couple of buildings away from us. Soldiers from the nearby Victoria Barracks came down to help where they could in controlling the blaze. Debris is all over the place and as one of the neighbouring properties we have minor smoke damage to our roof.
As I write this the street is still cordoned off. See the raging fire for yourself at http://youtu.be/nHWzGRbesGY
Memories of Friday, 20th November 1992 and the Windsor Castle fire come flooding back to me. We were filming for a BBC documentary at the time and from an upstairs window noticed the fire. Our film crew were the first on the scene. I was Press Officer for the Windsor District Chamber of Commerce and The Prince Philip Trust fund and was very busy for a few days letting the world know it was business as usual in Windsor. As it is again, we are safe and open for business!
The memories I have are also of the wonderful spirit of the residents and business’s in Windsor when faced with adversity.
Long may this Continue.
