THEY eyed each other nervously over their glasses of champagne — successful TV scriptwriters, lawyers, surveyors and accountants.
Most of the faces in this small, select and glamorous gathering had three things in common: they were very good looking, very successful and, surprisingly, single. These were just some of the attractive clients who had signed up with a rapidly growing dating agency catering largely for the increasing number of men and women who are too beautiful to find a mate.
‘I always find the more attractive the person, the more lonely they are,’ says Karen Mooney, who set up the Sara Eden introduction Agency. ‘Men are afraid to approach beautiful women, especially if they are so well-groomed that they look untouchable. Women are suspicious of good-looking men. But when you talk to either sex, you find they are lonely, insecure and anxious about their looks because of some minor fault. ‘People will go for the wrong types when they’re looking for a relationship —and the most attractive people have the biggest problem of all.’
Karen’s agency, which opened new offices opposite Windsor Castle yesterday, has just announced its 1,000th member. According to Karen, one in seven introductions results in a permanent relationship and there have been 22 weddings this year.
