Those who inhabit this sceptred isle have a tendency to thrive in adversity. We are going to have to adapt to survive with the threat of Covid 19.
I’d give the speed dating a miss for a while – all that sanitising every chair you sit on might not make the romance happen.
All this begs the question of how you deal with meeting a stranger for the first time. Elbow bumping, rather than a handshake or the European custom of kissing both cheeks is definitely to be recommended right now – people rather like it as it shows respect for the well being of the other party and is rather daft at the same time.
Wherever you are going, wash your hands-on arrival – that’s both of you, mind. No touching anything before you do.
If you are eating together, the napkin is your new friend – you can use it to handle the menu….
If the two of you are hitting it off it can be tempting to touch hands (REALLY? Whatever happened to your sense of self preservation) This is your thriving in adversity moment!
Time to devise a modern version of courtly romance between the two of you, whereby you sit opposite each other and talk without touching – you can still stare into each other’s eyes and smile. How much more exciting it will be when you decide that it’s okay to kiss! Added bonus: the ability to delay gratification is one of the traits of those destined for success in life, those who have self control and plan for the long term. Now, wouldn’t this be a great way to spot who to fall for?
